Student Spotlight: Nathan Arellano

Ms. Sun’s Center for Cultural Perspectives and Innovative Learning has challenged me to consistently improve my personal capabilities within learning and immersing myself in the cultures and experiences of people with different backgrounds.

The Center has impacted me greatly by opening my eyes to the vast diversity of the world, giving me the opportunity to interact with individuals from different backgrounds and immersing myself within their distinct cultures. I have traveled with Sunny on two separate outgoing trips. Once, last summer, I was in France, where I split my trip between Brést and Paris along with other peers. More recently, I traveled to Spain with a group of students, Ms. Sun, Mr. Quach, and Señora Aguilera. We spent three days in Barcelona and a week in Zaragoza. The Center has grown my love for traveling and experiencing different things that come from different cultures.

I come to the Center weekly to discuss ways to improve each ongoing trip with Ms. Sun by reflecting on past trips outside of the United States. We reflect on how certain activities went, what we could’ve done differently to enhance our experience, and how to prepare moving forward. We also discuss how to plan the most enjoyable experience for incoming students from different Lasallian schools within our network.

The Center has given me multiple opportunities to pursue my passion by allowing me to view different lifestyles across the globe, immersing myself in the different perspectives on the workforce from various cultures. I specifically have had the opportunity to discuss with teachers and mentors I’ve met from previous trips that have given me advice on potential career paths I would like to take in the future.

I am currently working on a project involving videography from separate trips I’ve been on. Most of the footage I chose to edit is from trips with Sunny and the Center. My goal is to accurately showcase the beauty that comes not only within Europe but also in places I’ve been to separately, such as Japan and Egypt.

The Center and my experiences with Ms. Sun have given me the opportunity to learn about topics such as cultural practices, intercultural relationships, and historical context. The Center has provided me with valuable knowledge that I believe I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life. My ability to study and fully immerse myself in the cultures and experiences of people from many origins has been continually challenged by Ms. Sun's Center for Cultural Perspectives and Innovative Learning.
