Full STEAM Ahead Initiative

When La Salle College Preparatory’s STEAM Lab was built ten years ago, it was one of the first in the San Gabriel Valley, setting a precedent and standard for STEAM education in the region. As both enrollment and student interest have grown tremendously over the last decade, we launched the Full STEAM Ahead campaign on July 1, 2023, to raise $500,000 to support our efforts to both expand and enhance La Salle STEAM infrastructure and programming for the next generation of future scientists, engineers, and designers. We hope to reach this fundraising goal by June 30, 2024, with your help.

The Full STEAM Ahead campaign seeks to increase the size of this important facility from its original 1,320 square feet to 4,000 square feet, a three-fold increase in laboratory and classroom space. We will also introduce new course offerings in our Innovations and Design Lab and establish an Aerospace Engineering Center. Your support will allow La Salle to expand the footprint of our STEAM Lab, including presentation space for student displays and work products, and purchase equipment vital to the space’s future success. This new equipment will include:

  • State-of-the-art drones, virtual reality headsets and software, and furniture designed for flexible use.

  • Two wind tunnels for our new aerospace engineering program to provide students with hands-on experience in aerodynamics, enabling them to test and analyze designs, understand airflow behaviors, and develop innovative solutions essential for aircraft and spacecraft design and optimization.

  • Two flight simulators to offer students practical training in piloting, aircraft control, and system analysis. They provide a safe, cost-effective environment for students to refine skills, simulate real-world flying scenarios, and enhance aviation expertise.

  • Design curriculum and software for graphic design, Revit, industrial design, architectural design, product design, and engineering design, all fueling creative and artistic minds.

  • Additional 3-D printers and laser cutters to expand the already successful STEAM programming taking place at La Salle.

Related to this expansion of our STEAM Lab, the CARLOW Center for Medical Innovation was developed and launched two years ago to provide a medical career pathway program for students interested in pursuing careers in the health sciences. When the STEAM Lab is completed, its proximity to the CARLOW Center will allow for considerable cross-collaboration and engagement between these two important programs.
