BA in Sociology and Comparative Religion from Harvard
Attended Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Divinity School but degree interrupted by move to the West Coast

  • What do you teach?

Morality and Justice/World Religions for Juniors

Christian Life and Service for Seniors

  • What other roles/responsibilities do you have on campus?

I started the Girls Golf program years ago and have coached Boys and Girls Golf off and on until last year.

I have coached College Lacrosse (Boys and Girls) at Brown, Harvard, Claremont, Occidental, and UCSB as well as High School Lacrosse at The Thacher School, St Francis and La Canada and a couple of other schools back east.

  • How many years have you been at La Salle?

24

  • Why have you stayed at La Salle?

I love the caring atmosphere and the San Miguel program - I've worked at a number of High Schools and when the San Miguel program was at its peak, La Salle was the most diverse, caring, and dynamic school that I have ever seen. If you are an alum reading this - please give to the San Miguel program.

  • What is your favorite thing about teaching at La Salle?

The kids of course!! :)

  • Do you have a favorite memory or favorite alumni class?

While I do delete the names as they are called at graduation to free up space on my ever shrinking hard drive, I will never forget when Brennan Mace '18 said to me in class - "Why don't you teach us something useful - Like how to clean a fish or something??" That weekend I caught a Halibut in Newport Harbor and I brought it into class on Monday and we cleaned it on the desk in the classroom. There are still a couple of red spots on the classroom carpet. Later in the week, I put together the makings for Fish Tacos and we had a loaves and fishes moment in the classroom where there somehow was enough food for everyone to eat lunch and a little left over.

I also love the annual Set up the Teepee and play Lacrosse that I do with the World Religions Classes every year.

  • What are your hobbies/interests outside of La Salle?

I love to fish and travel - I've been to 49 states - all but Alaska - I joke with my wife Paula that if I repeat the same sentence in the same hour - send me to Alaska with a fishing rod so I can get eaten by a bear while fighting a big salmon on a beautiful river. :)

  • If you were a student at La Salle today, which current clubs, activities, or organizations would you be a part of?

I am very proud of starting the Gender Equality Club and had a blast with the Lacrosse Club last year and wish we could get a Meditation Club going again (I think Tik Tok is winning that battle), but I am very impressed by the BSA Club today and some of the service clubs kids have started in the last couple of years are awesome.
