Cash for College Night

February 15, 2024 - Cash for College Night

We invite parents of seniors who have not yet completed their FAFSA to this workshop on Thursday, February 15 in the BLC. This workshop is a FREE, financial aid assistance to families completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the California Dream Act Application (for eligible AB540 students). These forms must be completed to receive priority consideration for state and federal financial aid, institutional grants, loans, and work-study opportunities, if eligible. We strongly encourage all families to apply for financial aid, regardless of income.

The FAFSA underwent an update to simplify the application. With the changes, students need to start his/her FAFSA before the parent can start entering information. Once the student enters information about their parent(s), then the parent can access their portion of the FAFSA. Remember, the parent and the student must have separate FSA IDs.

  • Your student needs to know his/her SSN and their contributors' (AKA parents) SSNs and email addresses.
  • Click HERE to create an FSA ID.

The parent portion is now simpler, as almost all the information will be uploaded directly from the 2022 tax return. Parents are still required to answer some questions:

  • Amount of College Grants, Scholarships Reported as Income to the IRS
  • Amount of Foreign Earned Income Exclusion
  • Current Total of Cash, Savings, and Checking Accounts
  • Current Net Worth of Business and Investment Farms
  • Current Net Worth of Investments, Including Real Estate

It also asks the same questions to your student.

We encourage all families of seniors to have your student complete the FAFSA student portion first. Then, work on the parent portion on your own. It should take you around 30 minutes to complete.

After the student portion is completed, we invite any families who still need assistance to attend our FAFSA Workshop. We invite parents to attend one of two sessions available.

Session 1 - 5:30 to 6:30 pm

Session 2 - 6:30 to 7:30 pm
