Mothers of Alumni
Because of the rich tradition of volunteerism that typifies the La Salle experience over the course of four (or more) years, many parents will remark that they are not “ready to graduate” with their child. Parents who are engaged in volunteer activities here at La Salle form deep and lasting friendships with other parents. They also encounter these emerging friendships on the bleachers, in the theater or dining hall.
In an effort to keep parents connected to the school and to provide support for these long-lasting friendships, the Mothers of Alumni Council (MAC) offers opportunities to continue to volunteer at La Salle. MAC annually sponsors events for parents of graduates and current parents. We believe that our events form bonds and tie us together---therefore they are called, “MAC-TIES”.
The first event for the school year is an opportunity to learn more about the Mothers of Alumni at our “Discover Mothers of Alumni” gathering. It’s an opportunity to gain a parent’s perspective on what to expect senior year. During this event, MAC joined with the Alumni office, help prepare care packages for our newly graduated students who are now college freshmen! This event is usually held in the fall.
The second event is our Annual Holiday Boutique and Luncheon. A variety of vendors featuring unique and special items that make terrific Christmas gifts will be available. The School Choir will offer a Christmas-themed performance and a representative of the School-or Alum-will make a presentation on life at La Salle or beyond. The proceeds from our past events have been earmarked for financial aid and the MAC goal is to provide an education for a student in need.
In the early spring, MAC will present another gathering designed to share with senior mothers what it’s like when the nest becomes less full! The topic is “Separation Anxiety, getting ready to graduate”.
The final event of the year will be held just prior to graduation. At the MAC Cocktail Party, we induct graduating senior mothers into MAC and bestow the Gloria Delaney, P’82, ’85, ’89 Volunteer of the Year Award on a graduating parent who has exemplified the School’s Motto: Learn - Serve – Lead.
