Michael Perry '10 Takes Third in State in Long Jump

Michael Perry '10 took third in the long jump Saturday, June 5, at the California State Championships for Track & Field.  Perry's top mark of 23 feet 2.5 inches bettered his own school record by almost six inches.  His third place finish represents the highest finish in school history for La Salle Track & Field athletes.  Perry's accomplishment in the long jump places him and La Salle third out of 1,442 member high schools in the state CIF.

Four of Perry's jumps at State Finals equaled or bettered his previous personal record of 22 feet 8.75 inches, set last week at the Southern Section Masters.  His jump series was 22-10.25, 23-2.5, 21-0.75, 21-5.75, 22-8.75, 22-9.5.  Going into State Prelims Perry had the 14th best mark out of the thirty jumpers who qualified.  He moved into the 9th spot after prelims, and then up to the 3rd spot after finals.  He was the only long jumper in the finals who improved upon his previous marks and set a personal best.
